Here’s How We’re Working Toward a Union County
The Union County Health Department, working with our fellow partners within the UCMOVES coalition, is working on ways to maximize use of the existing transportation resources and identify the types of transportation needs local residents and businesses have. The coalition has been partnering closely with our business community and social service agencies to understand the unique challenges that face a broad range of Union County residents and workers.
Our Mission
Our vision is to enhance and develop infrastructure where transportation is accessible to all people for all reasons. Our mission is to advocate and plan for transportation systems that balance convenience and efficiency.

The Golden Nugget Award was established in 2022 to be awarded to a Union County transportation provider who goes above and beyond to support the community in transportation needs.
The 2024 goes to a transportation provider that is always willing to take that extra step and is not afraid to explore unchartered territory to do what can be done to get an individual to where they need to go. Through hard work and dedication, it is our pleasure to announce the 2024 recipient: Penny Wood with A Way Out Transportation.
Ms. Wood started in 2016 with A Way Out Employment Services, LLC. About five years ago she decided to take the leap and started providing transportation within Union County as a way to get the individuals she helps employ to their jobs. She has since expanded transportation services to all Union County residents to meet the needs of the community. She and her husband coordinate over 1,000 trips per month in which she and her drivers work diligently to get these individuals where they need to go.
Thank you Penny Wood for all you do for our community!

Medicaid Transportation
Are you on Medicaid and qualify for transportation help? Below are local transportation providers that contract with Medicaid.
Ambulette Services
An ambulance is a vehicle that is mainly used for life-saving whereas an ambulette is used to carry disabled persons. An ambulette is just like an ambulance but these vehicles are not for any emergency needs or life-threatening situations.
Carpooling / Vanpooling
Carpools and Vanpools are elements of the mobility services network that allow groups of people to share the ride. Vanpools are similar to carpools, but on a larger scale with concurrent savings in fuel and vehicle operating costs
Active Transportation
Active mobility, active travel, active transport or active transportation is the transport of people or goods, through non-motorized means, based around human physical activity. With far reaching benefits that impact individual health outcomes and the local economy, active transportation initiatives are so valuable to the community.
