Challenge is On Again to Walk for 24 Hours
Once again, the Union County Health Department is encouraging all Union
County residents to get active this summer and take part in the 24 Hour
Challenge Campaign! The Challenge, which officially begins on July 7th
and runs through September 28th, encourages residents to walk for a total
of 24 hours and see what it does for them. Walkers keep track of the amount
of time they walk over the 12 week period and become eligible for a final
incentive prize as for reaching their goal of walking a total of 24 hours.
This year, group walks and activities will be offered as well. By setting
small goals, reporting progress and walking in groups, participants are
more motivated to be consistently active. Hopefully, by the end of the
12 week campaign, participants will have worked walking into part of their
daily routine and will continue throughout the year. Participants will
also have access throughout the challenge to a Licensed Dietician to discuss
nutrition and fitness issues. There is no charge to participate in the
program.
“Physical activity is tremendously important to our health, impacting
cardiovascular health, mood, stress, depression, metabolism and a host
of other things,” said Virginia Kendall, coordinator of the campaign.
“People know it’s good for them, it is just a matter of making it a priority
and finding time in your day. One of our biggest pushes is to encourage
families to be physically active together, which models physical activity
as an important priority to children and allows parents not to lose time
with family to get their workout in,” she added.
A registration and kick-off open house event for the campaign is being
held on Wednesday, June 18 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at the Health Department
located at 940 London Avenue in Marysville. At this drop-in event, you
will have access to health and fitness information and be able to register
for the Challenge. If you would like more information about the 24 Hour
