Union
County's 24 Hour Challenge
July to September
The 24 Hour Challenge --“Walk for 24 Hours as see what it does for you!”-- is a 12 week county-wide incentive program aimed at encouraging residents to become physically active on a routine basis. This structured program suggests a goal of time to walk each week to reach the goal of walking 24 hours total.
Participants maintain a log of their time walked. They check in at specific times to become eligible for prizes. The 2001 campaign will began on July 1st, 2001 (12 weeks prior to the USA Family Health & Fitness Day). It will end on USA Family Health & Fitness Day September 23, which encourages families to be more physically active together-- an important goal of the 24 Hour Challenge.
The 24 hours breaks down to an average of 2 hours per week, or approximately 17 minutes per day. It is based on the Surgeon Generals recommendation of 30 minutes per day, 3-5 times per week, as participants can choose any combination of number of days and times per day to total that time.
